Okada: 5 pupils crushed in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT – FIVE pupils of a primary school in Nonwa community, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, met their untimely death, yesterday, when a Hilux van crushed them.
The pupils were on
a motorbike (Okada) that was conveying them to school when they were knocked down and crushed close to Gbam Junction.
A source, who spoke to Vanguard on the incident, said the motorbike rider also lost his life in the accident, adding that it took the timely intervention of soldiers in the area to restore peace after the incident. According to the source, community youths had reacted angrily to the incident.
At press time their corpses had been deposited at a private morgue in Ebubu community in Eleme council.
In another development, security operatives, yesterday, secured the release of some officials of National Integrated Power Project, who were taken hostage recently. Public Relations Officer of the Port Harcourt Army Barracks, Major Aminu Ilyasu, who confirmed the development, said the released officials were later handed over to a paramount ruler in Elele.
The army spokesman said the state Police Commissioner would brief the media later with the full details.
